Wallowa Buddhist Temple

Our local Soto Zen temple asked me to do an art piece for the area above their guesthouse entrance. My husband Tyler and I worked together to create this wooden round depicting Kanzeon, a figure representing Great Compassion in Buddhist teaching. We used Shou Sugi Ban, a Japanese technique of charring and scrubbing wood to seal, protect, and emphasize its texture.
